We’re proud to announce Dan Morris’s recent promotion to Regional Director (Bristol, Bath & Somerset) at Element Recruitment. Dan joined Element Recruitment in March 2016. He was the first hire to Steve and Steph’s start-up business. In the first few months Dan shared his space in the 3-desk office with the kettle and printer. It was a little tight on room but Dan knew the business would grow. Fast. And he’s a key factor in the businesses rapid acceleration and growth.
I was keen to find out why Dan chose to progress his career at Element:
“It was a culture thing. I didn’t want to settle for average – Having worked with Steve & Steph previously, I know they don’t settle for anything but the best. I wanted a business that was invested in the individuals that worked there. Have an identity of my own. And work in a place I could be passionate about what I do.”
I’ve asked Dan before “why he wanted a career in recruitment?” At the time he’d just graduated from Cardiff University but even now, some years later his reasons have stayed consistent the same:
“I get bored easily. I wanted a career where every day was challenging. I knew it wouldn’t be easy and that was part of the appeal. I wanted to work somewhere, where you have to do your best. I didn’t want to be mediocre.”
The last 18 months have been a rollercoaster ride. It’s been full of real highs and a few challenges along the way. I was curious to find out what Dan had enjoyed the most:
“Seeing the business grow so quickly and the opportunity available to us. This includes hiring Lucie Brown who interned with us last year and has just returned to Leeds Uni for her final year before re-joining Element next summer. Lucie is a great example of our drive to investment in people."
I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to be self-sufficient and used that autonomy to be able to build my business the way that works for me and Element.
"I hope my own promotion will show others within the business that’s whilst our headcount is relatively small, we’re growing! Having recently been runner-up at the Business Leader Awards 2017 in two categories (Start-Up Business of the Year and Business of the Year (1-10) Employees) it was an opportunity to be recognised within the South West business leader community for what we’ve accomplished so far on our journey. And we’re still at the beginning."
Dan’s strengths are in his ability to build relationships. He’s determined, tenacious and most of all … a genuinely nice guy. If you’ve met Dan, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Recruitment is about partnering with each individual we work with – client or candidate. To get there – it takes hard work. Knocking on a lot of doors. Knocking on more. Asking people for their time, trust and business. It takes persistence. It helps, when like Dan you’re passionate about what you do.
Dan’s recent promotion to Regional Director (Bristol, Bath & Somerset) will see him continue to grow and develop the team of Consultants he leads based from our Bristol office.
Dan’s personal focus will be on the senior, leadership and strategic end of the Finance & Accounting market with the wider team recruit for permanent, temporary or interim assignments. Sejal Hampson's team looks after transactional - newly qualified sector of the market.
