We’re celebrating National Apprentice week and we asked Emma what it's like to be an apprentice at Element.
When I was thinking about my options I chose an apprenticeship as I wanted to earn money and do a job that would offer progression and I could have a career, not just a job.
I’ve been doing a Business Administration Level 2 with Element for nearly 4 months and I’m really enjoying it. I thought I might be treated differently as an apprentice but that’s not been the case; I’ve been made to feel part of the team and treated with respect.
I chose Element as I got a really good feeling during the interview process, the people I met described the office as having a family feel and that’s exactly what it's like. It doesn’t feel like I’m coming to work every day, everyone is great.
In the 4 months I’ve been here, I think my technical skills have improved and I feel much more confident dealing with people. My job involves talking to a wide range of people and I think my interpersonal skills have improved.
One of the highlights was our sports day last week when we celebrated Element being 4 years old. It was really good fun seeing a different side to people and getting involved with games; I didn’t realise I was so competitive!
Longer term I hope that I will continue to develop and I’ll be given more responsibility, I feel that I can build a career on the skills I’m learning and I’m excited about the future.
If you’re thinking of doing an apprenticeship, I’d say definitely go for it. Earning money and learning simultaneously is a great combination!
