Element are pleased to be recruiting for a Senior Accounts Assistant in Gloucester. This is a perfect step for someone finalising their AAT studies, coming with a solid founding in accounting.
The Senior Accounts Assistant plays a key role in supporting the finance team in the day-to-day management of the company’s financial transactions. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, maintaining ledgers, assisting with month-end processes, and mentoring junior finance staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely processing and reconciliation
- Maintenence and reconciliation of the general ledger
- Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes
- Post and review journal entries (accruals, prepayments, etc.)
- Monitor cash flow and produce relevant reports
- Assist the Management Accountant with budgeting and forecasting
- Liaise with external auditors and support year-end audit preparation
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in an accounts/finance role
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles
- AAT Qualified or Finalist, with desire to study ACCA/CIMA
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, Oracle, or similar)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (e.g., PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, formulas)
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
