Senior Accountant - Newton Abbot

Location: Torbay, Devon
Salary: £40-45k
Hours: Full-time / in office

Overview:
My client is a well-established accountancy practice based in Torbay, they support a varied portfolio of clients across Devon and the South West. The firm prides itself on its friendly, professional approach and ability to nuture long-standing client relationships.

The Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, preparing accounts, providing technical support, and assisting with staff supervision and client advisory work.

Key Responsibilities:
• Preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders
• Preparing management accounts, VAT returns, and bookkeeping as required
• Reviewing accounts prepared by trainees and providing mentoring or guidance
• Managing client relationships and acting as the main point of contact
• Supporting clients with business and tax planning advice where appropriate
• Ensuring work is completed accurately and within deadlines
• Assisting partners with ad-hoc projects and client advisory work

The Ideal Candidate:
• ACA/ACCA qualified or qualified by experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an accountancy practice
• Confident in preparing and reviewing accounts for a wide range of clients
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Proficient in accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar
• Able to manage workload independently while supporting junior staff where required
