Element Recruitment is working in partnership with a growing and highly respected law firm based in central Bristol to recruit a Compliance & Complaints Officer to join their expanding team.

You’ll play a key role in managing complaints and supporting compliance activities across the firm, contributing directly to maintaining regulatory standards and client satisfaction.
The Role
In this position, you will:
- Manage client complaints from initial contact through to resolution
- Ensure all matters are handled professionally, fairly, and in line with legal and regulatory requirements
- Support broader compliance and operational functions across the firm
- Contribute to improving processes and maintaining high service standards
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complaints from start to finish, acting as a key point of contact for clients, fee earners, and internal stakeholders
- Liaise with legal teams to gather information and progress cases efficiently
- Ensure complaints are handled in line with SRA regulations and internal procedures
- Support compliance monitoring activities, including audits and internal checks
- Assist with the production of reports, compliance metrics, and performance data
- Escalate findings and support recommendations for improvement
- Conduct research into regulatory requirements and legal industry best practices
- Support the assessment of new regulations and their impact on the firm
- Summarise findings and present insights to management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance records and documentation
- Prepare files and documentation for audits and regulatory inspections
- Ensure all information is organised, accessible, and audit-ready
- Work collaboratively across legal departments to ensure compliance alignment
- Support process improvements to enhance efficiency within the team
- Stay up to date with regulatory changes within the legal sector
About You
- Strong organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines
- Professional, reliable, and able to handle confidential information with discretion
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Previous experience in complaints handling, compliance, legal administration, or a similar role is advantageous but not essential
- Experience within a regulated environment (ideally legal or professional services) would be beneficial
