Element Recruitment is delighted to be supporting HR Dept, a fast-growing business based in Emersons Green, as they look to appoint a talented Accounts Assistant to join their expanding finance team.

This is a newly created position within their Health & Safety division, reflecting the company’s continued growth. It’s an excellent opportunity for an AAT qualified (or working towards) Accounts Assistant who is looking to progress their career, with full study support available to help you work towards becoming a Management Accountant or Finance Manager.

You will play a key role in supporting the accounts department, ensuring that day-to-day accounting processes operate effectively across multiple companies. Alongside core finance tasks, you’ll also provide general administration support to the accounts, marketing, and operations teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the Purchase Ledger: entering invoices, seeking authorisation, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Supporting the Sales Ledger: posting receipts and assisting with invoicing.
  • Preparing and completing bank reconciliations.
  • Reviewing creditor reports and preparing weekly supplier payments.
  • Reviewing the aged debtor report, allocating payments, and chasing outstanding debt.
  • Liaising with suppliers and licensees, handling queries promptly and professionally.
  • Carrying out supplier statement reconciliations.
  • Processing staff expenses, invoices, and receipts.
  • Posting credit card transactions.
  • Managing direct debit set-up and processing.
  • Handling international currency transactions and accounts.
  • Supporting colleagues across the business with account-related queries.
  • Answering incoming calls and responding to enquiries.
  • Handling confidential documents and maintaining filing systems.
  • Producing reports and analysis from the CRM system.
  • Providing cover for colleagues within the accounts department when required.
  • Supporting ad-hoc administrative tasks when needed.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Previous experience working in a finance/accounts role.
  • Good knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures.
  • Experience with Xero accounting software.
  • Strong IT skills – Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and flexible approach.
  • AAT qualification (or working towards) or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of VAT and basic accounting principles.
