My client is the UK’s biggest and leading the global surge in maritime technologies, products and systems. In this role you will be working closely with the Data Scientist, Systems Architects and Development teams and you will be helping to implement world class operations and engineering practices to deliver stable, scalable and secure data processing platforms. You will be tasked with improving all aspects of their R&D and Analytics.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage the data infrastructure (pipelines and systems) with their AWS R&D environment.
  • Work with the data scientist to ensure data is processed and stored correctly, as well as being available for analysis in the appropriate formats. Ensure that analytical systems are ready to run for analysis to be carried out.
  • Implement and manage the pipelines and analytical systems within their product environment (Analytics Engine). Balance the “here and now” application requirements against the strategic architecture directions set out by the system architects.
  • Interact with several key roles in the company including other System Architects, Product Managers, developers, test teams and other delivery functions.
  • Owning the data manipulation and processing within the key systems ensuring that the data is of high quality.
  • Managing and recommending new technologies that move the product forward from a data architecture perspective and support the Data Scientist in the Analytics functionality.
  • Help shape the core architecture from the data integration perspective. This will involve working closely with the other architects to understand any overlap in technologies and the introduction of new tools and processes to achieve their goal.


Key Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, Scientific, Computing or Engineering or similar discipline and 4+ years of experience in the data domain.
  • Knowledge of data architecture including data modelling and schema design.
  • Extensive knowledge of data processing and the associated technologies used to build high quality, scalable and resilient data or ML pipelines.
  • Experience developing big data systems: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Flink, etc.
  • Programming skills such as python, java, shell scripting etc.
  • Ability to do analyses using SQL and data visualisation tools, such as Tableau, Power BI etc. (would be useful).
  • Good communication skills with the ability to relate to various audiences.
  • Experience with AWS is desirable.
  • Previous experience at building analytical processes for production systems.
  • Data-oriented personality with a positive, can-do attitude
